The Imposter
Welcome back, I know you miss my mind-blowing and super awesome recommendations, so here is another one.
Tell me in short what is it about?
This documentary will make you furious, I swear. It’s a slow burn, but it gets crazier and crazier as it goes on.
Nicholas Barclay was just a normal American kid from a loving family in Texas, living with his mother, father, and sister. Then one day, out of the blue, he vanishes — gone without a trace, never to return home. His family, along with the police, searched for years. But with no leads or proof of what happened, the police eventually had to close the case.
Then, four years later, the Barclays receive a call from Spain. Someone there claimed to have found Nicholas. Overjoyed, his sister travels to Spain to confirm it’s him. They bring home a boy who looks like Nicholas, with similar blonde hair and posture. But over time, they begin to realize that this boy is not Nicholas.
Is it okay to watch what do you think?
When I started watching this documentary, I truly believed they might have found Nicholas. But as the family slowly began to realize that it wasn’t him, it became heartbreaking to watch. It was painful to see them losing Nicholas all over again.
It’s incredibly inhumane to toy with people’s emotions like that. I can’t even imagine going through something similar. It’s easy for others to say, “How could you not recognize your own brother or son?” But only those who have experienced the pain of losing a family member can understand the overwhelming hope that comes with hearing they’ve been found.
You’ll be shocked by the crimes committed by the Nicholas impersonator.
