This movie primarily focuses on just 2–3 characters yes, that’s the entire cast! At first glance, it might feel like a low-budget film, but don’t be misled. It’s based on a true story and boasts a compelling, powerful storyline.You might recognize the lead actress, even if her name doesn’t immediately come to mind she’s Valene Kane, delivering a phenomenal performance. As for the rest of the cast, they’re less familiar, so let’s focus on her since she dominates the screen time.
Plot
As I mentioned earlier, this movie is based on a true story. It follows a British journalist determined to uncover the mystery of missing women who end up joining ISIS. These women aren’t kidnapped they willingly travel to Syria, often manipulated by promises of love.
Our main character, Amy, uses her intelligence to connect with someone she believes can provide the information she needs. She immerses herself in the process, meticulously documenting everything logging details, recording calls, and piecing together the truth. Remember, this isn’t just any group it’s ISIS. Despite the risks, she goes undercover without fearing for her life.
The story takes an unexpected turn when Amy begins to develop feelings for Bilel, one of her sources. Her emotions drive her so deeply into the situation that she even travels halfway across the world to meet him. The ending is utterly shocking, but you’ll need to watch the movie to find out what happens!
My wisdom regarding this movie
I absolutely love when a movie is presented to us in a unique way. As I’ve mentioned in my previous blogs, shows like Kevin Can F**k Himself and movies like Searching have such innovative storytelling methods. This movie follows suit everything unfolds through the lens of Amy’s MacBook, and it’s absolutely amazing. Not once did I feel the pace slow down; the twists just kept coming, bam, bam, bam! I thoroughly enjoyed the momentum, and it kept my eyes glued to the screen.
Throughout the movie, I was engrossed in watching Amy’s emotions fluctuate as she undertook heroic work, risking her life. The moment she actually boarded a plane and traveled, I was panicking — like, “Girl?? My girl was out here thinking, ‘Well, he’s in ISIS, but he’s cute though.’” Seriously? I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that this really happened.
I highly recommend watching this movie, not only for its gripping plot but also for Amy’s bold and brave (slightly reckless) journey. It’s a story that’s both shocking and captivating.
